Chapter 1: Ivarstead Screams, the Rift Bleeds, Part 3
The Cure Effort
From the desk of Valtire Leythen, reviewed by Aestaril Leythen
Writing this immediately today, I need to get it down before it leaves my brain.
Zeldava sort of just existed in agony. I don't dare think about how much pain she must have been in. It seemed horrible.
Everyone met in the Investigations building, I called out to Azazel and Bakes to help me move the alchemy table. Truthfully, I should have done it sooner but I had been busy in my office. I apologize for the wait. Once we had the alchemy table set up within the Investigations building, I brought the chest of ingredients over to the table. Kicking it open, they now had full reign over the supplies. Aestaril, Azazel and Ina seemed to have prior knowledge, letting us in on what they knew beforehand.
The alchemy crew got to work on sampling and mixing. They were... very enthusiastic. Servita just seemed to be munching the entire time. Azazel, Aestaril and Ina got to work making potions and other concoctions. I think Ina made some sort of fly monster, whereas Corin and Bakes seemed to almost be cooking at times? Azazel was more careful, working with the hand of someone experienced but rusty. Either way, they blasted their way through the ingredients. I am overwhelmingly proud of them for their initiative.
Ascela and myself worked on infecting the blood ball. I let Ascela borrow a mask and a pair of gloves, to keep herself safe. We observed the blood fighting back against the infection. Watching closely, we were able to watch the blood adapt and create its own defense. Ascela was able to extract the defense mechanism from the blood so we could use it in the potion.
The potions crew was able to get some likely cures set aside. Aestaril called out that two likely components to the cure were roses and orange butterfly wings. From there, Ina was able to figure out the final ingredient, luminous russula. Corin approached Zeldava in an attempt to help her pain, but Zel lashed out on her, afraid, grabbing her by the throat. Corin seemed to be alright, though she was definitely angry. Ina put the potion together, bringing it over to Ascela and I for the special ingredient. Once the potion was complete, we only had one step left. Administering it to Zeldava. She took it and headed outside. Azazel had already left the building, getting some fresh air. Zeldava bent over, vomiting purple blood into the grass, "He's... so... quiet now..." and with that, she hit the ground as she passed out. Mission complete.
Azazel and Bakes helped move Zeldava to the infirmary for some rest. I spoke with Servita to let her know that I was glad she had come along even if she didn't know what much to do. I hope to see more of her, she seems sweet. I went inside to check on Corin, bringing Ascela with me. Corin said she was okay, which I do not believe- however I wanted to respect her privacy and thus moved forward into my office with Ascela. I was surprised to find Aestaril already waiting for us. I offered Ascela her promotion and she accepted it, she now has a key to the vault and a new title.
I will need to speak with Zel on when we shall celebrate.
